Eleven enthusiastic amateurs* gathered at Bread Matters to make a minimum-knead yeasted wholemeal, a sourdough rye, Scotch baps and a plaited challah - all in a day.

It was a joyful way to start the bread making year, with snow outside, the wood-fired oven blazing inside and a lot of laughter; nice work if you can get it.

Seven people had received the course as a Christmas gift and one had won the free place in our 2015 Prize Draw.

* Amateur here means a lover of bread making rather than someone who's not very good at it.
